Offline QA: Puerto Vallarta Tourism and Online Marketing

This past week I have been privileged to spend a week in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. It has been an incredible experience. During my travels, I met someone that helped invent the internet (literally, in like the 1960s), a fire chief from New York during 9/11, and several other nice people while touring what is a pretty amazing location with a lot to do and a lot to eat.

Anyway, while in Puerto Vallarta I was able to enjoy the Off-road Adventure from Vallarta Adventures. Genuinely incredible, and I highly recommend it to anyone in the area. While in an off road truck known as a Unimog, the tour guide asked me what I do for a living. I told him I co-own an online marketing and content writing company. He asked me how it works, and when I explained he said:

“Oh, I get it! So you could write about this tour for our website, for example.”

“Yes,” I responded, “but I can also write about things of interest to travelers. For example, Puerto Vallarta restaurants. Then, when someone searches for the restaurants in Puerto Vallarta, they find your website, click around, and see the tours you have to offer.”

He understood and nodded his head approvingly, asking me a few more questions before moving on to the next person. But I realized that this is often what companies looking to invest in online marketing forget – there are so many ways attract customers that go beyond what you offer and what you do. Tourism is one of the best examples. If you can become a resource for any given city or state, you gain credibility, reach more potential customers, and still market your business because you’re answering a question they may not have known they had: what to do in your city.

Nearly every industry has these types of questions and answers, and that’s why nearly every industry benefits from expanding their content towards other issues that directly relate to their product or service, without necessarily being about their product or service.


For those wondering, the Off Road Adventure by Vallarta Adventures is far more enjoyable than the brochure makes it sound. The Unimog ride is like a roller coaster through the jungle, there are plenty of stops along the way, the tour guides are amazing, you get to see a considerable amount of wild life, eat tacos that are hand made with the freshest ingredients, and relax at the end on a private secluded beach, all with free food and drinks. While I am but one person, I highly recommend it.
