One of the first things you learn as an online marketer is that you should always try to add a call to action. A call to action is what tells the reader what to do next. While your website visitors may already know what they want, they may not necessarily be thinking about what they want when you read your post. That is why you tell them what to do next, with statements like:
- Contact us today.
- Click here for more information about {subject}
- Fill out the form below.
These are all easy, effective calls to action. They tell the visitor what they should do next, so the visitor doesn’t have to think or look around. They know exactly what to do because there, in print, is some type of instruction on what they should do.
But what’s interesting is how infrequently a website’s call to action has the most important information available, to make the “action” easier on the respondent. It’s shocking how many websites say “click here to visit our contact us page” or “contact us today” with a link to their contact page. Or worse – no link, and just the words “contact us today” with no simple method to do so.
It’s well known that every extra step you put on a reader decreases the likelihood that they will contact you. That is why one of the simplest ways to improve conversions is to add your phone number to the page. For example:
“If you are looking for an SEO company in Sacramento, call Great Leap Studios today at 347-460-5492, or fill out the form below, and let us help you improve your exposure in the online world.”
By adding the phone number, you have made a very small change that will increase conversions dramatically. Now, no one will have to look for your phone number or take an extra step before they contact you. Your number is right there, and they can click and move forward immediately.
This is just another example of how content writing can improve conversions even without improving hits.
